CONSTRUCTION OF THE CABLE CAR TRANSPORT PROJECT CONTINUES WITH 70 PERCENT COMPLETION

The construction and installation works of the Kharkhorin Market–Yarmag cable car transport project, a strategically important initiative aimed at improving public transport accessibility and reducing road traffic congestion in Ulaanbaatar, are currently progressing with more than 70 percent completion.

The construction and installation works of the project commenced on March 10, 2025, and key stages of the project are currently being implemented according to schedule. In particular, one of the project’s main components, the installation of the steel cable, began in May. At present, the connection and splicing works of the main 58 mm-diameter steel cable are underway.

The main steel cable has a composite structure consisting of six steel cable bundles, each of which is being connected through a separation and splicing method. The total length of the connection and splicing works is 80 meters, and the work is planned to be carried out twice.

The project implementation involves engineers and specialists from France’s POMA Group, together with the teams of Monnis Engineering LLC and Tsagaan Uran Khiits LLC. Meanwhile, the Integrated Project Management Office, a municipally owned enterprise, and Maximal LLC are carrying out the client-side supervision.

One line of the cable car transport system will have a passenger carrying capacity equivalent to 1,035 cars and 35 buses. It represents a new public transport solution with low carbon emissions and an environmentally friendly operating model.

Upon completion, the project is expected to reduce traffic congestion around Kharkhorin Market and Yarmag, save citizens’ travel time, and create conditions to bring the quality and accessibility of public transport services to a new level.

Ulaanbaatar Investment Management and Securities LLC, a company owned by the Capital City, is working to align Ulaanbaatar’s major urban development projects and programs with investment, financing, private sector participation, and international cooperation.
