THE WORLD BANK’S ECONOMIC UPDATE ON MONGOLIA HAS BEEN RELEASED

 

According to the World Bank’s latest economic update on Mongolia, published on April 9, 2026, Mongolia’s economy grew by 6.9% in 2025, while growth is projected to stabilize at 5.0% in 2026. Growth was driven primarily by the mining sector especially copper production at Oyu Tolgoi as well as the recovery of the agricultural sector.

The report notes that while the country’s core economic indicators remain broadly positive, external uncertainty, export related risks, domestic price pressures, and fiscal expansion are expected to weigh on the medium term outlook.

It also states that inflation reached 8.6% in 2025, largely due to rising food and energy prices.

Under these conditions, the report suggests that for investors:

Economic growth is continuing,

Demand for infrastructure investment remains high,

New opportunities are emerging to support diversification, productivity, and regional development,

At the same time, there is a growing need to assess risks more carefully, particularly in relation to inflationary pressure and external volatility.

In a special section of the report, the World Bank notes that agglomeration in Ulaanbaatar has helped improve productivity and market opportunities. However, it also highlights that overconcentration, traffic congestion, and infrastructure strain could limit the benefits of future growth. This indicates that infrastructure, logistics, energy, and urban renewal projects in the capital remain areas of tangible investment need.
