CONSTRUCTION OF THERMAL POWER PLANT NO. 5 REACHES 16% COMPLETION

🇲🇳 Construction and installation works for Thermal Power Plant No. 5 (TPP-5), a major energy infrastructure project aimed at meeting Ulaanbaatar’s growing demand for electricity and heat, have reached 16% completion.

➡️ Foundation works are currently underway for Boiler Units No. 1 and No. 2, the turbine, chimney, and bag filter system. More than 300 engineers and technical personnel are working at the project site, while manufacturing of the main plant equipment has progressed to over 30%.

📊 Once commissioned, the plant will have an installed capacity of 300 MW of electricity and 340 Gcal/hour of heat, with an estimated annual generation capacity of 2.2 billion kWh of electricity and 1.1 million Gcal of heat.

🇲🇳✅ The project is being implemented through a public private partnership (PPP). The Ulaanbaatar Development Fund Private Investment Fund, under the fiduciary management of UBIM, is implementing the Capital City’s investment participation through the subscription of shares in the project’s special purpose company (SPC).

📌 The project demonstrates the practical application of a financing structure that combines bond proceeds, investment fund capital, and private sector investment to finance a major energy infrastructure project in Ulaanbaatar.
