PREPARATION WORK FOR “THERMAL POWER PLANT V” PROJECT IS PROGRESSING
Preparatory work for the “Thermal Power Plant V” project, aimed at balancing Ulaanbaatar’s rapidly growing energy demand and strengthening the reliability of the city’s infrastructure, is progressing steadily.
As of today, 142 geotechnical drilling holes have been completed at the project site. Construction of the foundation for the plant is scheduled to begin in April 2026.
The plant will be constructed on the ash pond area of CHP-2 located in the 20th khoroo of Bayangol District. The project contractor is Mitime International, and the project is being implemented under a Public Private Partnership framework.
The plant will incorporate environmentally friendly technologies, including:
CFB (Circulating Fluidized Bed) boiler technology
Flue gas control systems to reduce NOx and SO₂ emissions
Air cooled condensers
Water recycling systems
The financing structure and investment sources of the project are being arranged and coordinated through the Capital Investment Fund, with implementation and management carried out by UBIM.
Once completed, the project will become a major source of electricity and heat supporting residential development and urban expansion in the western and north-western areas of Ulaanbaatar.
