“NEW GENERATION ULAANBAATAR”: ACCELERATING URBAN DEVELOPMENT THROUGH 20 KEY SOLUTIONS

 

Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar B. Purevdagva presented 20 key solutions to be implemented under the “New Generation Ulaanbaatar” policy.

The policy takes an integrated approach to urban development, extending beyond construction projects to address quality of life, public transport, green spaces, urban infrastructure, air pollution reduction, investment, and urban governance.

Urban Planning: The city will expand access to schools, kindergartens, and green spaces in densely populated areas, protect public spaces, and improve residents’ access to public services.

Public Transport: Metro, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), tram, cable car, and Sky Shuttle projects will be integrated into a unified public transport network. The city also aims to shift the way traffic congestion is assessed from vehicle speeds to residents’ actual travel times.

Urban Infrastructure: Major infrastructure projects, including the Tuul-1 Collector, Combined Heat and Power Plant No. 5 (CHP-5), and the Dambadarjaa Heating Plant, will be advanced. Air pollution reduction efforts will focus on measurable outcomes, including reducing the number of coal-burning household chimneys.

Green Transition: The city will progressively expand electric mobility and EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy deployment, and green housing development.

UBIM is working to diversify financing sources for the Capital City’s development projects and programs by leveraging capital markets and expanding the participation of the private sector and international financial institutions.

The “New Generation Ulaanbaatar” policy brings together urban planning, transport, infrastructure, green development, and investment within an integrated policy framework, with the goal of delivering tangible improvements in the quality of life for Ulaanbaatar residents.
