ULAANBAATAR’S WINTER PREPARATIONS 83% COMPLETE

 

Prime Minister of Mongolia N. Uchral and Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the State Emergency Commission N. Nomtoibayar held a meeting with provincial and Ulaanbaatar city authorities to review preparations for the 2026–2027 winter season.

During the meeting, B. Purevdagva, Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, presented an update on the progress of the city’s winter preparations.

A total of 573 projects and measures are being implemented across Ulaanbaatar, with overall completion reaching 83% as of September 15.

As part of infrastructure upgrades, 57.3 km of utility networks are being modernized, including 18.7 km of main district heating pipelines and 16.1 km of pipelines serving residential areas. In addition, 6 km of the Tuul-1 collector pipeline is currently under construction.

In the power sector, repairs and upgrades to power lines and substations are ongoing, increasing installed capacity by 29.2 MVA. The 150 MW Phase III expansion of the Buuruljuut Power Plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027.

This winter, fuel will be distributed through 446 sales points, while 4,975 households in Bayangol and Chingeltei districts have transitioned to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) heating.

UBIM is working to mobilize investment and financing for Ulaanbaatar’s infrastructure and energy projects, contributing to the implementation of policies aimed at strengthening the city’s utility infrastructure and the reliability of its energy supply.
