“Ulaanbaatar Green Housing Project” Underway in the Bayankhoshuu and Sharkhad Sub Centers
Financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Ulaanbaatar Green Housing Project aims to transform ger areas into environmentally friendly residential zones equipped with smart infrastructure.
During Phase I, approximately 800 housing units and service facilities are being constructed in the Bayankhoshuu and Sharkhad sub-centers. Several blocks have already been commissioned, while the remaining construction is progressing according to schedule.
-In Bayankhoshuu, out of the planned 462 housing units on a 5.5-hectare site, the first phase consisting of 4 blocks with 110 apartments was commissioned in September. Construction of the second phase with 6 blocks totaling 226 apartments is ongoing.
-In the Sharkhad sub center, construction of a 338-unit residential and service complex on a 5.4-hectare site is progressing in line with the approved timetable.
Once fully implemented, the project will deliver a total of 5,000 housing units, eliminate 8,000 chimneys and 5,000 pit latrines, and significantly reduce air and soil pollution. In addition, the introduction of greywater reuse systems, along with energy-efficient and smart solutions, will reduce water and energy consumption and minimize negative environmental impacts.
Phase II, comprising 4,200 housing units, is planned to be implemented through “EDAF” in which UBIM, holds ownership rights.
