5,000 HOUSEHOLDS HAVE BEEN TRANSITIONED TO GAS FUEL, WITH THE PROGRAM SET TO EXPAND IN PHASES TO REDUCE AIR POLLUTION

 

As part of Ulaanbaatar City’s air pollution reduction policy, a total of 5,000 households in Bayangol and Chingeltei districts have been fully transitioned to gas fuel this year. Of these, 3,815 households are located in Chingeltei District and 1,185 households in Bayangol District.

During his visit to the Ulaanbaatar Gas Supply and Management Agency, Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar B. Purevdagva emphasized that the project will be expanded in subsequent phases once the initial households have fully adapted to the new energy system. He also highlighted that Mongolia has commissioned its first international standard gas laboratory, capable of analyzing all types of gas compositions.

Under the project, households are being equipped with NFPA-compliant gas boilers featuring multi layered safety protection systems. As of today, 25 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution points are in operation. During the first half of 2026, a total of 11,365 gas cylinders were circulated, and 308.4 tonnes of LPG were sold. In addition, since December 2025, Mongolia has imported 2,080 tonnes of 98.8% pure propane gas to support the transition.

This initiative to promote cleaner fuel consumption is a key component of Ulaanbaatar’s strategy to reduce air pollution, accelerate the energy transition, and advance sustainable urban development.UBIM is working in partnership to support the implementation of initiatives and projects that contribute to the Capital City’s green development agenda and sustainable infrastructure investment priorities.
