CONSTRUCTION OF THE MAIN COP17 VENUE AT THE NATIONAL GARDEN PARK IS PROGRESSING

 

Mongolia will host the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) for the first time from 17–28 August 2026. The conference’s primary venue will be located at the National Garden Park in Ulaanbaatar.

Construction of a temporary conference complex built to international standards is currently progressing at pace. The facility is being developed to provide the infrastructure required to host a global conference of this scale and significance.

COP17 is expected to welcome 8,000–10,000 participants from more than 190 countries, including heads of government, ministers, representatives of international organizations, academia, the private sector, civil society, and media organizations.

The conference venue will comprise the following key functional zones:

Blue Zone – The secure UN-managed conference area where official negotiations, high level meetings, and ministerial sessions involving heads of state, government officials, and representatives of international organizations will take place.

Green Zone – A public engagement platform designed to host exhibitions, innovation showcases, cultural events, panel discussions, and community programs involving citizens, youth, academia, businesses, and civil society organizations.

Media Centre – A dedicated media facility providing workspaces for domestic and international journalists, interview rooms, and broadcast studios to support live reporting and global media coverage throughout the conference.

UBIM is actively contributing to the implementation of investment and sustainable development initiatives associated with UNCCD COP17. Through its engagement in international cooperation, UBIM is supporting efforts to connect Ulaanbaatar with new opportunities in international investment, green finance, and sustainable urban development.
