WINTER PREPAREDNESS, COP17 ARRANGEMENTS, AND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MAJOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS CONTINUE TO ADVANCE
🇲🇳 During today’s Cabinet meeting, the Government of Mongolia reviewed the capital city’s winter preparedness, preparations for the upcoming academic year, organizational arrangements for the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17), and the development of the Selbe Smart City project.
✅ A total of 573 projects and initiatives are currently being implemented as part of Ulaanbaatar’s winter preparedness program, with overall progress reaching 57% to date. Ongoing work includes road construction and rehabilitation, engineering infrastructure, district heating and energy reliability, air pollution mitigation measures, as well as preparatory activities across the education and healthcare sectors.
🌍 In preparation for UNCCD COP17, which will be held in Ulaanbaatar from 17 to 28 August 2026, the Government approved an odd-even vehicle registration restriction from 15 August to 12 September 2026 to facilitate the efficient movement of international delegates, official guests, and conference participants throughout the event period.
🇲🇳 The Cabinet also endorsed the strategic transformation of the Selbe Subcenter into the Selbe Smart City, supporting the phased development of digital public services, a technology regulatory sandbox for innovation, and a special economic zone aimed at strengthening the city’s long-term competitiveness and innovation ecosystem.
🇲🇳 UBIM is working with relevant stakeholders to support the implementation of the capital city’s strategic development agenda by assessing investment and financing opportunities for major initiatives, including COP17 preparations and winter readiness projects. The company also benchmarks international best practices, develops potential financing structures and partnership models, and contributes to attracting long-term investment for strategic urban development projects.
