MONGOLIA INTRODUCES THE “STEPPE AGENDA” TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY, LAUNCHING A GLOBAL INITIATIVE FOR SUSTAINABLE RANGELAND MANAGEMENT

 

As part of the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17), Mongolia is introducing the Steppe Agenda to the international community with the objective of creating a lasting legacy and delivering tangible long term outcomes.

The Steppe Agenda aims to strengthen international cooperation in protecting steppe ecosystems, combating land degradation, and enhancing climate resilience through three flagship initiatives:

* Global Rangelands Initiative

* Integrated Water and Land Management Initiative

* Nature-based Green Infrastructure Initiative

The first flagship initiative, the Global Rangelands Initiative, will be jointly implemented by the Government of Mongolia and the UNCCD Secretariat. The initiative seeks to expand international cooperation and investment in the protection, sustainable management, and restoration of rangelands, while supporting global efforts to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN).

UBIM continues to highlight national and international initiatives that advance sustainable urban development, climate adaptation, green investment, and environmentally responsible infrastructure from a strategic investment and development perspective. Through its work, UBIM supports the promotion of innovative financing approaches and long term development strategies that contribute to building a resilient and sustainable future for Ulaanbaatar.
