ULAANBAATAR CITY LEADERSHIP HOLDS REGULAR BRIEFING MEETING IN KHAN-UUL DISTRICT

 

The regular briefing meeting of Ulaanbaatar City’s senior officials was held at the Khan-Uul District Governor’s Office. Mrs. G. Gangamurun, Chief Executive Officer of UBIM, participated in the meeting. Discussions focused on the progress of major infrastructure and urban development projects, winter preparedness, public transportation, urban planning, and preparations for UNCCD COP17, with relevant authorities assigned specific tasks and directives.

Officials reported that preparations for the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17), scheduled to take place in Ulaanbaatar from 17–28 August 2026, have reached 90% completion. Preparations for the Mayors Forum are also progressing through dedicated working groups responsible for logistics, policy content, and the green zone and exhibition areas. The Forum is expected to strengthen international cooperation among cities in addressing land degradation, desertification, and dust pollution.

The meeting also noted that 33 out of 125 unauthorized kiosks installed across the city have already been relocated. In addition, road maintenance and rehabilitation works are currently underway at 85 locations, with completion targeted by 23 August.

In preparation for the new academic year, officials reviewed the operational readiness of the city’s public transportation system. The sector currently maintains a 13-day fuel reserve, along with MNT 4.4 billion worth of spare parts and MNT 1.5 billion in fuel and lubricants.

Urban safety was another key agenda item. Participants reviewed the current status of unauthorized construction and discussed measures to improve construction site safety and reduce related risks across the capital.

The meeting host, Khan-Uul District, also presented an overview of its public service delivery. The district currently administers 48,500 hectares, comprising 25 subdistricts (khoroos), 82,110 households, and 334,407 residents. Through its 24/7 Public Service Center, the district provides 126 types of public information services and facilitates more than 600 types of payment transactions for residents.
