Preparatory Work Begins for Renewable Energy Project in Baruun Salaa and Zuun Salaa
The Capital City Governor’s Office has been implementing a phased set of integrated measures—introducing renewable energy, home insulation, and gas usage—to reduce air pollution.
Within this framework, preparations have begun for a project to transition households in Baruun Salaa and Zuun Salaa to renewable energy, with implementation planned for next year. Over the past weekend, site visits were conducted by the Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Kh. Nyambaatar, the Chief Executive Officer of Ulaanbaatar Investment and Management JSC, G. Gangamurun, and the UN Resident Representative Matilda Dimovska.
As these areas are among those with the highest recorded air pollution levels, plans include introducing solar energy systems and preparing a feasibility study, with implementation scheduled to begin next summer. Additional measures will include the installation of electric vehicle charging parking facilities to reduce vehicle emissions and improvements to household insulation.
The project will be jointly implemented by Ulaanbaatar Investment and Management JSC, the Capital City Governor’s Office, and the United Nations Development Programme. Once implemented, these projects and measures are expected to improve air quality in Ulaanbaatar and deliver measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
