SEMI-COKE BRIQUETTED FUEL TO BE PRODUCED DOMESTICALLY
Residents of the Capital City are using semi-coke (blue coal) briquetted fuel this heating season, and a policy has been set to transition to domestically produced semi-coke fuel starting from 2026.
In this context, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, G. Zandanshatar, and the Mayor of the Capital City and Governor of Ulaanbaatar, Kh. Nyambaatar, visited the “Altanshireet” Industrial and Technology Park, where they reviewed coke production plant projects.
The use of semi-coke fuel has resulted in:
A reduction of air pollution in Ulaanbaatar by more than 30%,
Domestic production costs being twice as low as imports,
Time and cost savings through solutions based in industrial and technology parks.
Implementing air pollution reduction policies not only through administrative measures but also through financial market–based solutions represents an important step toward the sustainable development of the Capital City.

As part of the Capital City’s air pollution reduction policy, options to finance the project through non-budgetary sources are being explored, and Ulaanbaatar Investment Management Company (UBIM) is providing professional support by attracting investment for the plant and related projects from international professional investors in line with market principles.
