BAGAKHANGAI–KHUNNU CITY BRANCH RAILWAY PROJECT REACHES 90% COMPLETION
The Bagakhangai–Khunnu City branch railway project, aimed at centrally distributing goods from the cargo terminal in the Khushig Valley and Orgog Mountain area and establishing logistics infrastructure, is being implemented according to plan. As of today, construction works under Phase I of the project are approximately 90% complete.
The project includes the construction of a third-class railway line with a total length of 102.8 km and a 1,520 mm gauge, comprising 3 stations, 4 passing loops, and 2.5 km of bridge structures. Once commissioned, the branch railway will enable freight flows to bypass the city center and be organized through satellite cities and logistics zones, forming a core foundation of Ulaanbaatar’s freight transport infrastructure.
Construction is planned to be carried out in two phases. Phase I covers 87.85 km from Bagakhangai Station to Khushig Valley Station, while Phase II will implement the remaining 14.95 km of railway construction.
