PHASE II TENDER LAUNCHED FOR THE “ULAANBAATAR METRO” PROJECT

 

The Phase II tender for selecting the construction contractor of the “Ulaanbaatar Metro” project aimed at introducing a high-capacity public transportation system in Ulaanbaatar will be implemented in two packages.

The Package 1 tender will be opened on May 1, 2026, and tender documents are currently being received.

The tender is being organized under the EPC+F (Engineering, Procurement, Construction + Financing) model. Under this structure, 85% of the project cost for Package 1 will be financed by the contractor, while the remaining 15% will be funded by the city budget.

In the prequalification stage, 27 companies from six countries expressed interest in participating. An online meeting was also held with international participants to provide information on the project’s financing structure and implementation plan.

Once implemented, the project is expected to:

Transport 17,206 passengers per hour per direction during peak times

Increase average traffic speed by 23.3%

Reduce CO₂ emissions by 213.6 tons annually

UBIM is participating in the project as the financial advisor, working on developing an optimal financing structure and conducting market-based financial analysis to support the project’s implementation.
