PREPARATORY WORKS ADVANCE FOR CHPP-5 (COMBINED HEAT AND POWER PLANT) PROJECT
Preparatory activities for the construction of CHPP-5, a strategic energy infrastructure project designed to meet Ulaanbaatar’s rapidly growing demand for heat and electricity through cogeneration, are progressing steadily.
The project is being implemented under a Public Private Partnership framework, with "Mitime International" Co.,LTD acting as the private sector partner.
Implementation status:
Project site formally approved by Government resolution
Land acquisition substantially completed
Technical feasibility confirmed for integration into the central energy grid
Feasibility study underway for a dedicated railway connection to ensure reliable fuel supply
Technical specifications:
Air cooled condenser technology, minimizing water consumption
Closed loop water reuse system
Environmentally compliant Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler technology, reducing emissions
Expected outcomes:
Strengthened domestic energy supply capacity for Ulaanbaatar
Enhanced reliability and resilience of the power system
Downward pressure on energy costs and improved price stability
UBIM is actively structuring financing solutions for the project, including potential funding through the Ulaanbaatar Development Fund (under its entrusted management), while working to establish sustainable, long term funding sources aligned with capital market principles.
