LAND CLEARANCE FOR CHP-5 PROJECT REACHES 96% COMPLETION
Land clearance for the strategically important Combined Heat and Power Plant No. 5 (CHP-5) project, which aims to expand Ulaanbaatar’s electricity and heat supply capacity, has reached 96% completion.
Of the total 26 land parcels affected along the project route, 25 parcels have been cleared to date.
CHP-5 is planned to be built on a 15.3-hectare site designated as the ash pond area of CHP-2, located in the 20th khoroo of Bayangol District. The plant will have the capacity to generate 300 MW of electricity and 340 Gcal/h of heat.
Once commissioned, the project will provide a reliable energy source for around 100,000 households in areas including Tavanshar, the 21st microdistrict, Khilchin complex, Bayankhoshuu, the 3rd and 4th microdistricts, and the 1st microdistrict. It will also create a new heat supply source for approximately 40,000–50,000 households in the northwestern part of Ulaanbaatar.
The project is being implemented under a public private partnership structure, with the financing composed of 20% public funding from the city budget and 80% private sector investment. Miteim International LLC is serving as the private sector partner, and the project is scheduled for completion by Q3 2028.
