THERMAL POWER PLANT NO. 5 TO BE COMMISSIONED

The Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, Nyambaatar Khishgee, announced that the construction of Thermal Power Plant No. 5 has begun, and a pre-qualification tender has been announced.

The plant will be built on the ash pond of Power Plant No. II, located in the 20th khoroo of Bayangol District. The selection process will be completed and the contract signed in September. The plant is expected to be commissioned within 30 months after that.

Once Thermal Power Plant No. V is commissioned, it will have the capacity to supply heating to 40,000 new households and electricity to 100,000 households.

The Governor’s Office of the Capital City will select a private sector partner to develop the design, estimate the budget, build, operate, and transfer the Thermal Power Plant No. V project through a public-private partnership agreement.

“Ulaanbaatar Investment Management Securities Company” LLC, a company owned by the Capital City, has been focusing on supplying electricity and energy to Ulaanbaatar. In 2024, it invested MNT 300 billion in the Buuruljuut Power Plant project, which has since been commissioned and is now supplying 150 MW of electricity to the Central Region’s integrated energy system, making a significant contribution.
